Indeed

It's Ian's voice - he doesn't really sing so much these days but talks in a melodious way.

It gets a little samey as it's all within the same limited range.

This was a good album - I love it!

#It's just the same song ten times. I found it utterly dreary and irritating. I was annoyed he had sullied the legacy of TAAB with such trash.

I thought it was decent.

But then I'd be a bit concerned if I had found something to agree with yomptepi about.

Never gonna happen.

It feels odd to be on the wrong end of the prog bully boys.

I was going to tell Stephen that you like more prog than just Gentle Giant but thought better of it.

It makes sense that somebody who doesn't like prog in general likes Gentle Giant, easily one of the two worst 70's prog bands ever.

Just finished playing it for the first time.

There's little doubt that one is listening to a Tull album.

It contains the usual ingredients - up beat guitar and flute driven stuff to the more acoustic material with a range of mandolin, accordion and a bit of harmonica thrown in.

Twelve tracks with ten under or on 4 minutes - no long epics.

The rest of the band have been with Anderson for a few years and most on the TAAB2 line-up.

Interestingly, some tracks have a TAAB3 feel in terms of the melodies, riffs and structure which is fine by me.
As I said before this album has the usual Tull elements so don't expect any surprises!

As we all know the main issue is Ian's voice. Technology can do wonders and for the vast majority of the time his voice sounds good. It's the slower tracks where he suffers - the ones where he is talking rather than singing.

Still that said I really enjoyed it. There were only a couple of tracks that I thought fell below par but in general an album that had my foot tappin' and my head noddin' for 90% of the time!

Finally, how often would I play it? Well, certainly more times than Rock Island or Catfish Rising

Give it a go

They've announced a Jethro Tull concert in my little Swiss town of 50,000 on March 25 - in fact the concert hall is a five minute walk from my home.

I was ready to sweep aside all doubts about the location (not suited for amplified music at all) and ticket prices (60 to 90 quid), but then I went to see a few recent live clips... and thought it was too painful to endure and not a 90-minutes-long memory I want to inflict on myself!

Ian's voice is a mere croak and the band are a bunch of faceless sidemen.

Just say no!

Nostalgia eh?

I’ve played it 5 times and quite enjoyed it but isn’t it just a gentle and somewhat pale and derivative rehash of what they themselves did Pre -1974?

I get that Anderson & Co created the sound way back when themselves, but I would have thought you’d put that in the claptrap bin like all the modern prog bands who you feel are simply putting their own interpretations on the sounds of the 70s.
