LMG wrote:Again, I mainly knew Presence of the Lord from the live Derek and the Dominoes album In Concert.

I got into EC in 1975. At that time, I am not sure the Blind Faith LP was still in print. Could have scored a secondhand copy, of course. The album's rep was pretty poor, tho'.

Must have been circa '74 for me - John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers album made a huge impression on me, then Layla and I was hooked for years.

And I have a ridiculous fondness for the Yardbirds live with Sonny Boy Williamson, where Clapton sounds somewhat as if he's playing with rubber bands rather than guitar strings. One of my first albums with a genuine bluesman, many more of which to follow.

It's Clapton removing Cream, he's more subtle, Presence is a gem and Can't Find too. Ginger, whilst not needed still shines on this record. I think anyway

Sea of Joy - now this is a song I also don't associate with this album.

I had the Rick Grech compilation album The Last Five Years:

https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart ... 969#tracks

Sea of Joy closed the album, which was a real hodge podge - Family, Gram Parsons, Blind Faith.

The problem for me was that the Blind Faith album was sliced and diced and used to fill up several other platters.

Sea of Joy - just a notch below Can't Find & Presence, great feel. Would have been a better first track than Had to Cry Today, which is a little too Cream like and light in comparison. The violin lifts it and should have been employed more throughout the album to give it a them a more unique sound.

Do What You Like - this now has a certain charm, simply because no one would attempt such a thing.

In fact, rock music for the past half century could be seen as desperate attempts to AVOID having a Do What You Like on your album...

It does have a charm, just as the Grateful Dead do.

This extended drum solo just kills the album for me.

Sorry. No sale here.

I hear you. Tonight enjoyed the first couple of minutes, then it had worn out its welcome. Half the length and a violin solo would have been an improvement.

I remember seeing that in record shops. The Clapton one looked more enticing!

Just listening to the Live at Hyde Park recording.

They don't sound very enthusiastic!

They were compilations from RSO - one for each member of Cream and another for the band Cream. Ginger's had some Airforce stuff and Graham Bond, Eric's had his solo album and the Layla album sliced and diced plus Blind Faith - a strong lot of sources.

Jack's came from his solo albums up to then.

RSO were efficient in producing compilations.

I bought this 10 incher, mainly suckered in to hear Clapton's version of Smile.

Came to love the songs by Love, Blue and Barbara Dickson's take on With a Little Help From my Friends!
