Incidentally, Deke's writing chronicles heroic tales of alcohol and drug intake.

Sadly, he died of sudden heart failure aged 72.

Tonight I am on the fresh iced tea and have a very nice low alcohol lager chilling in the fridge for side two.

I would gladly return to a life of heavy boozing if it is the case that medical science has abolished hangovers. I suppose I would have read about that in the newspapers if it had happened.

my sister's been sober since 84, and she is quite happy that way. she will drink that sparkling grape juice stuff on holidays or whatnot.

After ten years I believe I have changed my relationship with booze, but I don't at all want to test that hypothesis. It can stay in the bottle.

well after 15 years of dating a sales wine merchant and going to endless events and wine tastings, I've tone down my drinking. This year I drank less than any of the past 30 years, plan to keep it up in 2022. I've drink but not like prior years.

A Hard Way to Live - this is the song which I'm fairly sure has Dave Edmunds on production. Another toe tapper!

I always get the feeling that they always had a good time in the studio [well, at least when Deke wasn't getting the sack!]

That always came across when you saw them live.

Particularly when Martin Ace [bass/vocals] was in the line-up

He was a bit of a card**

** Quick witted, unpredictable, silly 'goofy'

Jesse - Deke on piano. One of the best songs on the album.

Just checking I was not slandering Deke by referring to his capacity of the quaff.

Nope. His first volume of the Man saga, Rhinos, Winos, and Lunatics: The Legend of Man contains an account of how they won over Bill Graham once they invited John Cipollina to join, and '(Bill Graham) provided oceans of booze and we partied furiously, ar hyd y nos*'

*Welsh for 'all through the night'
