Under the radar in 1985

Postby GoogaMooga » 06 Sep 2021, 18:01

The Monroes were Norwegian, I couldn't tell. Their second album, "Face the Day", was released to critical acclaim in 1985, but a-ha stole the show. It's always exciting when you hear something really good for the first time, the way a song clicks with you by the first chorus. That's how I feel about "Face the Day", and the opener, "Jeanette", is simply wonderful.

One for Yves, for sure.

I like a bit of Fry and Laurie but that didn’t do a lot for me tbh.

I wonder if it is their Norwegian nationality? I think the first track has a strong hook, good arrangements, and good harmony. Unconsciously, it is easy to be biased, even if one doesn't want to be.

Or the offical video images may detract from the song.

Fuck all to do with unconcious bias. I have tons of music from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland etc. When it's good it's good but this is dreadful.
