The write up threads are great threads Matt - well does and good lad

You'll have fun with Faust

Great band.

This'll whet the appetite

It's worth it for that but has got too many tracks on it from BSS for my liking, bought mine at a boot fair for very little.

I suppose I’ll have to play it again to write a review. Although my reviews tend to be very short as creative writing really isn’t my thing. Maybe I’ll play it whilst the football is on later.

Emerson Lake and Powell.

Songs / Tracks Listing
1. The Score (9:07)
A promising start. Urgent keyboards usher us in with a melody not unlike bits of Karn Evil 9. Surely this is classic ELP? 4 minutes in Greg starts singing… “it’s been so long welcome back my friends to the show that never ends” … Which is nice. Then it meanders for a while before Greg pipes up again. Then another instrumental section, much as earlier. This track didn’t need all 9 minutes but they were never known for their brevity.

2. Learning to Fly (3:50)
A mid tempo song that sounds quite Asia-esque but with better keyboards. Not bad.

3. The Miracle (7:01)
Greg singing again opens this track and he’s searching for a miracle to save Mother Earth. This is pretty good. Better than Benny The Bouncer and all those silly songs. If you like Greg’s voice, as I do, there’s much to enjoy on this album. Some strange synth sounds from Keith. This song doesn’t really go anywhere, repeating itself and could have been much shorter.

More later

4. Touch and Go (3:39)
5. Love Blind (3:11)
6. Step Aside (3:47)
7. Lay Down Your Guns (4:23)
8. Mars, Bringer of War (7:55)

4. touch and go

It’s another Greg song. It’s fine enough.

5. Love blind

It’s turning into a Greg Lake solo album. Some 80s synth sounds from Keith. Greg is love blind and he’s not happy about it.

6. Step Aside

Hmmm. A soft slow jazzy number with some obvious rhymes from Greg. I can’t see this bring popular with ELP fans. Mercifully short. But seems to last for ever. A low point.

7. Lay Down Your Guns

Could this be an anti war ballad from Greg? It could and is... lyrically a bit trite but they just about carry it off. It has a synth solo that might have been better as a guitar solo.

8. Mars etc

Unsurprisingly this is an instrumental by Gustav Holst from The Planets. They don’t bring anything new to it apart from some cheesy choral synths but it’s entertaining enough.

In summary, the album seems very much front loaded with Greg solo stuff in the middle and the fairly epic Mars ending the album on a relatively high note. It’s no Brain Salad Surgery but it’s maybe a 6 out of 10.
