Record Store Day

Postby The Prof » 11 Jun 2021, 17:21

June 12th and July 17th apparently. Even if I did have a turntable wired up, I'm not sure I'd get anything.
There seem to be a lot of bootlegs pressed on 2 thick vinyl 12" discs. Bunnymen live? maybe but probably not.

Anybody participating?

Only the Tom Petty tickles my fancy but they’re bringing out a black vinyl version of it soon anyway which will be cheaper so I’ll wait. Not too bothered about coloured vinyl. If I didn’t already have a vinyl version of the Small Faces hits I might have been tempted.

The two Steely Dan and The Small Faces LP’s are what I’m hoping to purchase.

I picked up my Groundhogs LP earlier, but no sign of the Pere Ubu I was hoping for.

Not much that piques my interest tbh. Will be doing a post RSD trawl in Bristol next week just to see what is left.

Ordered the Fontaines DC Live in Kilmainham Gaol just after six when Tower added it to their website as I couldn't get into the city today.

Actually, thinking about in, I haven't been into the city since March last year, and it's only 6 miles away...

Despite my indifference I have succumbed and bought the Toots Funky Kingston reissue.

My niece did the trawl around Liverpool (Dig, 81 Renshaw, Probe) and picked up the two Steely Dan LP's for me.
She was after the Noel Gallagher and The Lathums which she managed to get.
I bought The Small Faces and Buzzcocks online after 6pm from Vinylstore Jr.
Joy.

I didn’t even have the opportunity to participate this year being on a road trip. I was in a very tiny town in the Northern Sierra where the main street is the highway so no music stores. They did have a brewpub so it wasn’t that bad. :D

The 2 Police FMs look decent - nothing new though, they've circulated as HQ boots from radio station preFM's for years can't imagine there's anything better than those sources around nowadays.

The Sisters Of Mercy BBC sessions LP's look interesting, doubt I'll be able to get a copy of those without paying through the nose they seem to come from BBC sources thought.

My other half is a serious metal head, she was keen on the Skid Row 'Slave ....' reissue, but it looks like an under-performer. I found this video which was quite enlightening, I haven't seen an artist review his own reissue in which he had no involvement, before. It illustrates how money-grabbing many of these operations are - basic attention to detail is lacking. Skid Row don't appear in many threads around these parts - but give it a watch, I like Sebastian, pity the rest of his band don't.

Doesn't seem to be on the list you are sharing, but I ended up grabbing the Timebox "Begging" single. I wanted to check out the Donny Hathaway Live release but the person ahead of me apparently took the last one. In other news, my local record store looks like it is either shutting down or moving - rent has gone up and not affordable. :(

I really like Skid Row and wanted to get this (my original is mashed). Not a chance in hell, unless I want to pay a ridiculous amount. Which I'm not. The clip is enlightening, Sebastian is always honest.

Went to Rough Trade in Bristol with Yomp yesterday, there are loads left, including the Donny Hathaway. In the end we didn't pick anything up, I find myself being a bit more discerning these days whereas initially I bought a shedload. An illustration of which is I bought the Big Star Third test pressing edition way back and it remains unopened. Open to offers!

Yes, another LAMF release - like we need another ..... well in this case i think we really do.

The separation on the guitars is fab, apparently not a limited release so there's reasonable chance of a getting a copy.
