"Violator" is a masterpiece for sure.
And for me the only album I care for with them.

How about this:
"People are people, so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully?"
And, as if that wasn't enough, they then repeat the same two lines.
Surely you must love them now?
Bugger off.

Wasn't it 'awkwardly'?
I reckon the first few DM singles were pretty much peerless for their time and genre. I once spent hours programming the melody from Just Can't Get Enough into the primitive sequencer on my bro's Roland SH101 and then triggered it from a borrowed Boss drum machine - happy days...
I lost interest (as much as I ever had any) when Vince Clarke left. I think the secret to their longevity - as is so often the case - was a talent for reinvention. Firstly, with a popped-up version of the metal bashing 'popularised' by Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Dept et al and then with the more enduring goth rock incarnation that went stellar in the US. I'm not a fan but I admire their canny ability to remain relevant.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Wasn't a fan back in the 80's but somewhere along the way I became a fan of basically their hits. Both singles albums are all I would listen to today.
They are a sImple pop synth band they wrote a few good songs with catchy hooks.

1st time I saw them on TOTP they looked like scared little boys. And whatever they were playing was Godawful. They went downhill from there in my estimation.
