What's the best single of the 21st century?
What's the best single of the 21st century? Two come to mind instantly: "Hey Ya!" and "Mercy".
I think "Mercy" has a slight edge over "Hey Ya!":
What's the best single of the 21st century?
"Mercy" by Duffy, released in 2008. One great album, "Rockferry", and this centerpiece single. Sadly, Duffy's follow-up album tanked, and she faded after that. For a brief shining moment in 2008, she reaped the glory, and the stage was all set for a brilliant career, but her second album foundered, and that was it. We the fans can only speculate on what could have been, and be happy that we at least got "Mercy".

Do you know why Duffy’s career ‘tanked’?

That is not what I wrote, I said that about her second album.

I've just looked at wiki, it mentions abduction and rape, I was not aware of that. My apologies.

Of course! I'd have voted for that except I couldn't remember the title. Just knew it was an earworm.
So now I'm happy.

What do 70s Squeeze singles have to do with it?
