Not to be confused with wash tubs. Those are for bass playing (just add a mop handle).

Or washboards, for extra percussion - provide your own thimbles.

I have to admit I am not too keen

what are water drums?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_drum

Like a water bed, but less fun

Anybody else remember the waterbeds at Branson's first Virgin Records store in Oxford Street above the shoe shop.

Trying to listen to an album on headphones whilst attempting a cool pose was extremely difficult

[Give me a bloody booth anyway!]

GO COSEY!!!!

Christgau on Pete:

"guitarist Pete Cosey is simply astonishing--the noises he produces ...comprise some of the greatest free improvisations ever heard in a "jazz"-"rock" context. Angry, dissociated, funky, and the best Davis music since Jack Johnson"

That was for Agharta, Christgau carels less for this album, disdaining the flute adn requesting individual track listings. He still graded it 'honourable mention', however.

I put this up for voting/selection and no bugger (other than me) voted for it!!!!!

A great album

.

sorry never saw the vote I would have voted for that it has some memories.

So was reading Michael Henderson's bio (bass player)
and this came up

Many of his bass riffs have been imitated by players seeking the fat, deep grooves of the Motown sound. His bass riffs, from such hits as "Valentine Love" and "You Are My Starship", have been sampled by the likes of Snoop Dogg and L.L. Cool J, and his songs have been sampled and/or covered by Jay-Z (American Gangster), Eminem (for 8 Mile), and projects by Notorious BIG, Rick James, Wayman Tisdale and Sugar Ray, among others.[citation needed]

Pete Cosey spent his career in various local bands, often unrecorded. He toured as Children Of Agharta to take this music forward, in the early 2000s. He was also involved in Miles From India, an exploration of Miles's music by Indian musicians.

He died at the age of 68 of complications following surgery. I cannot help wishing he had left more of a recorded legacy over the years.

Did you know he played for Chess and Motown records in his early days? Recorded with Etta James, Little Milton and those electric albums by Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. He also toured with Aretha Franklin and Gene Ammond. He was very versatile shall we say?

JJ, the first jazz album I bought was Manfred Mann's Chapter 3 Volume 1in 1969 but if that is not 'jazz' enough then it's Miles' Bitches Brew in 1970

Does that count?
