I only 'know' some of the artists by name. None by music.
And I don't want to waste my time on spotify and youtube.
A physical cd still means something to me but I wouldn't know where to start with new bands.
I have a broad taste but don't like that wishy washy electronica stuff.
So? Pieter?
I do waste a lot of time on bandcamp and youtube, it's true. There's so much music out there, reviewers don't have a clue anymore, and everything is niche, so there's no other way than to sift through it yourself. I discard a lot before I find something I like, but maybe someone else would discard my choices and pick something else. I totally get people not wanting to put the time in.
But I like it.
Would you like me to make you a cd-r with some of my favorites from the last couple of years? I'd be happy to. But maybe that doesn't help.
That is so true. Sadly the whole scene long since got away from me and most folk that post on this site so threads like this are great.
Some mother's talking 'bout Guns' n 'Roses
As if i give a fuck
At best i think they suck

Seconded.
In fact, I've been dismissing new music for decades until I discovered that I liked a lot of what came out in 2019. But I'm so far behind, and there's so much coming out every day that threads like this really help me to filter.
(even if most of it is bloody horrible)

I did get round to listening to this.
It didn't sound at all like I was expecting from the title, but I liked it enough to listen to the whole album. It was interesting. Not really my sort of thing on first listen but I wouldn't fast-forward it if it popped up on Spotify.
Thanks.

Cory Hanson of Wand made a pretty solo album, 'Pale horse rider'. Lots of acoustic guitars, slide, pianos, country and folk tropes, altered states, decaying grandeur.

That's my kind of shit! Thanks, Brother Spoon!
I love Wand, they make perfect music. A countrified side project sounds like just the thing.

Well, yeah.
I kinda hope this is a thread where we can talk freely about what we love and hate, even (especially) when it's the same thing.
It's a good feeling to really dislike a song once in a while.

Motorpsycho - Kingdom of oblivion
I've loved Motorpsycho for several decades, even though I have to admit they've gone down the progressive rabbit hole since 2010 or so. Still, they've managed not to lose me in the process, so that's saying something. About them or me, I don't know.
Their new record is filled with hard rock, unsettling folk rock, the occasional Hawkwind cover song, and a heavy nightmarish vibe, '70s low budget horror. In other words, I dig it.
Like this track, which I hardly know how to describe. Ethereal, spooky shoegaze near silence and semi-random noisebursts with tribal drums and lots of mellotron. A new family favorite.

Stuff. - T(h)reats
It's kinda cool a band as abstract as Stuff. can be something of a sensation in this country. That's Belgium for you. This is instrumental jazz, electronica with live instruments, post-rock, whatever. But it's not catchy. Awful good when you dig into it though, possibly while stroking your chin. And like a lot of people around me, I really like it.

I'm not convinced by the new Teenage Fanclub album, I'm afraid. It all blends into one another. It doesn't really connect to me.
I do like this one though:

‘New Long Leg’ by Dry Cleaning is sensational!

'Earth bow' by Sarah Louise.
Just the kind of meandering synthesizer pagan forest incantation, I can wholeheartedly recommend to people who like synthesizer pagan forest incantations.

Do you listen to it all the way through? I love several of the tracks individually and I have them dotted about various playlists, but i find the whole album a bit much.
Mind you, I'm like that with most albums these days and prefer single tracks and playlists.
But this album I found particularly hard work after a few tracks.

I’ve just played it three times back to back!
I get what people would find ‘ a bit much’ about it but I suppose if the pony is one trick, and you love that trick,it all works out!

OK. Maybe I'm just being a wuss about it and I need to listen to it again. I really, really like Scratchcard Lanyard and a couple of others.
If their second album turns out to be anything like as good, I reckon we can give them a whole thread of their own!!!

Re: What's happening?!?! - songs and albums from 2021
I haven't listened to the Coral very much over the years but seeing that everyone was making such a fuss over this I thought I'd give it a whirl.
I do like it but I find I have to keep stopping it halfway through each track to try and remember what other song it reminds me of. There's a bit of Tom Verlaine guitar in Lover Undiscovered, shades of Michael Kiwanuka in The Games She Plays, Loaded period Velvets in Take me Back to the Summer, Horse with No Name harmonies in Mist on The River, and a straight lift from You Showed Me in Land of the Lost.
Still, I do like it. If someone had told me it was an undiscovered gem from 1968 I might have believed them.
It wears its influences on its sleeve but the band do a lot with those influences. The songwriting and playing are both strong and the overall effect goes well beyond pastiche.
Definitely worth a listen.

I know he's got his own (not very popular) thread but I thought this should be mentioned in this thread too. Damien Jurado's new one, The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania:
After initially finding it pleasant but forgettable it's quickly become a big favourite. In fact I'm going to pay it again right now! This is track two:
