Tim Buckley Starsailor 1970

On a Buckley kick at the moment. This is his most difficult album, and not one I'd recommend unless you're already into his music - in which case you probably already know this record. "Song to the Siren" is here, and I also like "Monterey," "Moulin Rouge," and "Down by the Borderline," but Christ, he was on Zappa's Straight label by then, and there's no fuckin' way any of the suits (if there were any around) thought this stuff would sell.

Really like this album - my wife doesn't!

Been a very long time.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Sons of Adam - Saturday's Sons

Just released complete recordings of this minor LA band who gave Michael Stuart to Love. Two excellent songs, "Saturday's Son," and "Feathered Fish," are the highlights, but before that they were a great surf band called The Fender IV, and their complete recordings are here too, as well as part of a live show at the Avalon in San Francisco. Guitarist Randy Holden went on to play with Blue Cheer for a bit.

Always been a fan myself. Great live band too. Love all the first four albums, "Long After Dark" was a bit of a let down, but still had some good songs on it, like "Straight Into Darkness". Lost me somewhat after that, tho there are still plenty of assorted great songs scattered around.
"Pack Up The Plantation" is a great live album too.

Full Moon Fever, Into The Great Wide Open, Wildflowers, She’s The One, Echo, Highway Companion, and Hypnotic Eye are all excellent albums but if you just fancy trying out one of those go for Full Moon Fever. It’s a Tom Petty solo but doesn’t vere very far from the music of the band, in fact some of the Heartbreakers play on the album and it is superb.

I’ve been listening to ‘The People’s Forest’ by Mount Maxwell which I think is a Bandcamp deal - it’s really nice as a work background. It is quite bloody hippy dippy - I imagine it’s only a matter of time before I start looking like Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie - oh well!

Cliff's Hit Album 1963

Don't even know if this is on CD, but an early comp of Shadows-era material, all of which were UK hits.

Now We Are Six - Steeleye Span 1974

The one produced by Ian Anderson with Bowie on sax for one cut. Not as good as the last two I reviewed.

Image
Sefronia - Tim Buckley 1973

His first misstep. He wasn't singing as well as he used to, and the lack of jazzy avante garde stuff in favor of more commercial material didn't suit him.

Image
Rockin' Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu - Huey "Piano" Smith 1965

Basically, a UK version of his 1959 LP Having a Good Time with a couple extra cuts. Easily the best of the three here.

Jan & Dean Carnival of Sound 2010

Recordings Jan Berry was working on both before and after his accident. Had this come out in late '66 or very early '67, it would have been a nice addition to the J&D catalog. As it stands, an interesting look into what could have been. They should have lost the '50s rock 'n roll covers though.
