No I don't have his number but it's possible to correspond with him on his website.
It just might be a one-shot deal.

I ordered the 4-1/2" LP version as soon as I could.
This will be very interesting.

So here I was, driving back from Cactus Record in downtown Houston, fancying me some Zappatunes. Through Quobuz I stumbled upon the Road Tapes. Volume 2, in this case. Pretty much the Roxy era. This one also recorded in Finland (like YCDTOSA #2), but this one is so amazingly different! This is the band (August 23-24, 1973

FZ—guitar, vocals
Jean-Luc Ponty—violin
George Duke—keyboards, vocals
Ian Underwood—bass clarinet, synthesizer
Ruth Underwood—percussion
Bruce Fowler—trombone
Tom Fowler—bass
Ralph Humphrey—drums, cowbell

And this is the band, 13 months later:

FZ —lead guitar/vocal
Napoleon Murphy Brock—sax/vocal
George Duke—keyboards/vocal
Ruth Underwood—percussion
Tom Fowler—bass
Chester Thompson—drums

I think the 73 combo is far better. In particular the contribution of the french fiddler makes a significant impact. He rocks like Sugar Cane did. Didn;t think Jean Luc had it in him.
Mind you, they do a terrible rendition of Brown Shoes. Switch it off after Father O'Blivion. The rest is gold, I tell ya. Gold!

Wow, thanks Charlie, I haven't made it all the way through the interview (yet), but the live footage with Ponty and the full horn section is ace (didn't know Sal Marquez was in the live band during the Pacific leg of the 73 tour)

I don't know if this is firewalled - apologies, if it is - but this is a pretty good long article with some cool photos:

The site is asking me to pay. I won't.
If of any importance, I'll ask the Dweez on 9/11, when the wife and I have a meet & greet with the man, prior to his concert in Santa Fe NM. VERY much looking forward to it!

We're off! Amarillo by morning (sounds like a song...), and then on to Santa Fe NM. Meeting Zappa Jr. on Wednesday. We can take pictures next to FZ's Roxy guitar. No touchy-feely!, says the email. Whatever it is, we're gonna have a real good time together.

And it was great. There was a Q&A for us VIPS and some journalists (first question: "how's your mom doing?". Weird), and after that some of us were allowed on stage to have a look-see and some banter with all the bandmembers. I met Dweezil in Amsterdam back in 2019. He said he couldn't remember, and I appreciated the honesty.

The band played pretty much all of ' and the good stuff from Roxy, intertwined with goodies from yesteryear (Hungry Freaks, You're Probably Wondering..., Orange county Lumber Truck to name a few). The band has 2 new members. Forgot the names. The keyboard player's a Tommy Mars lookalike with a severe form of ADHD and the lead singer/guitarist/percussionist looks like Zappa-on-the-crappa. Both in their late twenties, but evidently very much into the Zappa Universe. The Lensic in Santa Fe was virtually sold out. Plenty of spectators with Zimmer frames and oxygen bottles in tow. Had they done Be-Bop Tango no doubt there would have been casualties. It was fun.

Dweezil said there's no money for a European tour, but as from January 9th there will be another US tour, starting in Texas and ending in Florida. Dates and venues to be announced. I'll be attending at least one of the shows. See if he can recognize me then.

Sounds great Erik - thanks for sharing

The above sounds reminiscent of somebody you met at a Mojo do back in 2002 and subsequently at least once thereafter…

Pity about no European tour. They've been great everytime I saw them. Met DZ on Kent Island, staying in the same hotel, told him I'd saw his Dad in Glasgow but that it wasn't very good. I'd had a couple of shandies.
