Mind Go Wild: Zappa's 1970 "Hot Rats" Sequel "Funky Nothingness" Gets First Release

As I mentioned in the Jazz Club, I scored today a boot called "Ahoy There". It's part 2 of a concert in the Ahoy Sports Palace (as it was known then) in Rotterdam. I bought it mainly for sentimental reasons. I attended that concert, back in 1981. I bought it in store. By coincidence I looked at it yesterday in Discogs. I didn't buy it, but when I saw it in the store just a day later, I couldn't resist (faith?). Anyway, the reason I didn't get it through Discogs is because I wanted both part 1 and 2. But Discogs says that it is not allowed to sell part 1. Any idea what could be the reason behind that? It's a small band for FZ standards: Ike Willis, Tommy Mars, Arthur Barrow, Ray White and David Logeman. Haven't played it yet, so don't know the sound quality. Not that important, in this case. It's just nice to own an album of a concert of which I was in attendance (and remember well, which is quite unusual because 1980 was a year during which I was stoned a lot.

Anyway, the reason I didn't get it through Discogs is because I wanted both part 1 and 2. But Discogs says that it is not allowed to sell part 1. Any idea what could be the reason behind that?

Some kind of dysfunctional algorithm, I guess.
What's blocked and what's for sale when it comes to boots makes no sense at all!

Good news boys and girls! Dweezil is going back on tour this summer. It's called "The Rox(Postroph)y Tour", which is a horrible name. Obviously they' ll be playing songs from the Apostrophe and Roxy albums, both of which turn 50 this year. I purchased the last 2 of 30 VIP tickets for the concert in Santa Fe NM (Lensic Centre. Google/Bing it. Looks awesome). It includes a stage tour guided by the Dweez himself and allows us to attend rehearsals etc. I'll have to keep an eye on my wife, for she might kidnap the little bugger and keep him all for herself ("will you come on our bus?"). It's all happening September 11, which is completely coincidental of course. Puts me back $600.00, not counting gas, food and accommodation to cover the 800-mile journey from Tomball and back, but I think this is going to be an unforgettable, bucket-list type of experience. When I talk to Dweezil I'll ask him when he's gonna do Europe. And I'll be there then as well, of course. Wife & I saw him in Amsterdam (in De Melkweg / The Milky Way venue - Capt. Sensible has a live album that was recorded there, he was opening for Japan - the band) some 7-8 years ago, and that was the best DZ concert I've ever attended, and I've attended quite a few of them (dunno for sure for sure how many, but double-digit for sure), but only once outside Texas. The reason for that could be that it was a standing-room only concert and the mamasita with the tequila shots was standing right next to us.

I saw the lad once many moons ago - in 2006, on the Zappa Plays Zappa tour. Napoleon was in the band

I also saw Dweezil when he guested with Zappa for, I think, My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama

I reckon that was Hammersmith Odeon 1982, The 'Europe Tour' - he would have been around 14 which sounds about right

I attended a ZPZ concert way back then. I felt that was more of a tribute band. What Dweezil has done since, is much more original. The "Hot Rats" concerts I attended in Austin and Houston (just before COVID) was truly epic. I don't think his dad toured with that album. My only problem with DZ's concerts: they always have some "Comic Relief" interlude, as Frank felt was necessary as well. Whereby with the elder it was hit and miss at best, with Dweezil it's an utter failure, every time. It's an opportunity to take a leak, buy a drink, smoke a ciggie. I sincerely hope this band won't lower itself to this rubbish. Music is the best!

Agreed, regarding ‘comic relief’

Roxy & Elsewhere is spoilt due to the overlong ‘audience participation’ track - the title of which escapes me.

Don't know about "GV" specifically, but there are clips on YouTube - I saw one for "It Must Be A Camel" and it was quite faithful.
