It's just economics. He explained that a US tour like he was doing (5 musicians, 4 roadies/technicians in a rented tour bus is costing about $15K per day. Pre-pandemic it was about $10K. Of course a European tour would be a lot more expensive, and with Zappa fans on the decline for obvious reasons, it's hard to fill out venues. It's only doable if he were to charge a Oasis-type amount for a ticket. Most pensionados can't afford that.

I read Moon's book. I think it's safe to say that Frank and Gail were never ever going to win the Parents of the Year award.

Re: Zappa corner. bung it here.
As I had to head out to hunt down a round bale of hay for our horses, I decided to look me up some FZ music to make the trip that much more enjoyable. Qobuz (where I think one kind find more Zappa music than anywhere on the www) came up with a something that caught my ear: Zappa/Beefheart live in Providence RI, April 26th, 1975. Same band/tour as Bongo Fury, but a completely different set (apart from Advance Romance, Carolina Hardcore XTC and that silly Poofter's Froth). Pretty good quality for a bootleg (apparently there's another boot version named Muffin Man Goes To College. Dunno about that one), but what excited me most was the appearance of " The Torture Never Stops" in its original version, as put on tape by Zappa and Beefheart at some point the 60s - I have it on another release somewhere but can't recall the name of it - Neige probably can). I like that version better than the ones on, for example, Zoot Allures, Thingfish and even New York. It's just very different. Faster, Rockier, and sung by the Captain. Another unique gem is the encore: Willy The Pimp, also sung by Don. It's available on double CD and triple LP. As collector I want to buy the latter. The label is Keyhole. It's blocked from sale on Discogs for some reason, but I'm sure I'll be able to get it one way or another. Every Zappaphile should listen to this, at least once.

I have Muffin Man on cd, on the Sonic Boom label. I bought it in HMV. It's a radio broadcast rather than a bootleg. There us a vinyl copy available on eBay.
