Connections & Links Quiz Thing

Postby Deebank » 24 Jun 2022, 13:55

How about this, I'll set a 'What's the connection between..." question and the correct answerer sets the next one and so on.

What connects Cocteau Twins' seminal Aikea Guinea with Zep's monumental When the Levee Breaks?

I have just one in mind but please mention as many as you like if indeed there are any others.

(I original thought the winner should link Levee to something but I'm happy with any unconnected musical linkage)
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

I'll take a wild guess ...
Is it that the drum machine the Cocteau's used sampled Bonham's drums from WTLB?
... I can’t hear it myself, but I'm struggling to think of any other link.

That’s it! Great guess.

Bonham played on both (sort of)
Robin Guthrie replaced the EPROMs in his Emu Systems Drumulator with a set called Digidrums Rock Drums which were sampled from WTLB.

The snare on Tears For Fears Shout is also Bonzo.

Over to you....

Is there ANY drum track post mid 80's that isn't Bonzo? :D
I seem to remember an interview where TFF claimed the opening rhythm (not the snare) was sampled from Talking Heads.

I'll have a think about a link quiz ... but if anyone wants to step in feel free ...

I reckon Clyde Stubblefield would have something to say about that... (or was the mainly 90s?)

Ok ... try this ...
What's the link between The Faces' Coast to Coast: Overtures and Beginners and Brian May's Live at the Brixton Academy?

Is it John Lennon?
Both covered Lennon songs at these gigs.
Give a shit or be a shit.

It is to do with the drummers, I think.

Nope ... it's related to the actual albums and what happened to them ... or very small parts of tnem

Anyone want a cryptic clue?

Were their audiences both sampled by Bowie?

Correct ... Well done!
The Faces live album was used on Diamond Dogs at the very end of Future Legend just as Bowie yells 'This Ain't Rock n Roll ...' ... you can actually hear Rod just before the Diamond Dogs riff starts.
The Brian May album was on 1: Outside on 'I am with Name' ... never verified it myself as there's not a hope in hell of me listening to a Brian May solo album! :D

I think you will find both Jones and Powell appeared on Tiswas.

I was at the Brian May concert. I did not realise I also appeared on a Bowie album.
