With little or no fanfare, suddenly you can find Royal Crown Cola on the supermarket shelves here. The fat glass bottles with the retro labels. Cane Sugar and Stevia types I have seen so far. I hate sweetener, but the cane sugar type looked very tempting, and I am happy to confirm that the rumors are true: Royal Crown Cola is the best cola on the market, even better than Pepsi-Cola. The company was founded in Georgia in 1905 by a defector from Coca-Cola, a former salesman called Claud A. Hatcher, who was dissatisfied with the salary he was paid by Coca-Cola. He concocted his own cola with his secret recipe, and even after a few sips of that stuff you can tell the difference. Rich in flavor, crisp and tangy, this is a cola that is steeped in history and ideal for slow sipping - ice-cold, of course. Now I just need a front porch and a rocking chair to get in that Southern state of mind.

Well, he did say “even better than Pepsi-Cola,” as if that is a benchmark of quality.
