On the way down, Missenden Abbey can be glimpsed through the trees on the left. It was founded in 1133, and after its dissolution in 1538 was converted into a private house. It has changed much over the years, and now serves as both a management training centre and an adult education centre.
Neither the Abbey nor the grounds are open to the public.
I don't know about a charter. Missenden is very small ( and exclusive!) I'm sure if we needed one, we would have one, and it would be earlier and much better than yours.
After a little research , It seems you only need a charter to have a market. Missenden has never been a market town, as Amersham to the east , and Wendover to the North were both Market towns. Missenden is a small village, not some vulgar town with a pikey market. Please, have a little respect!
Great Missenden, yesterday.
