Prince and Kate Bush
At the time, Queen and Bowie was a big surprise, as was Pet shop boys and Dusty Springfield

Re: Surprising Collaborations
Talking of Kate Bush, apparently Peter Gabriel's first choice for "Don't give up" was Dolly Parton

I think Prince and Sheena Easton was more surprising.

Loved that one.
Just accidentally listened to Mary J Blige singing One with U2. I listened to it because I love the song but, really, it was horrible.
Bugger off.

That could have been great!
Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle.
(Oh, and I own Focus Con Proby as well. Both parties had done worse!)

I really like that album, it does have a particularly personal meaning though.

It's probably my favorite Waits album (although I didn't like the movie much).

Interesting.
The band’s good. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard them before. I find Tom a bit less convincing, untypically restrained, though he does improve as the song goes on.
Bugger off.

FWIW, I've never heard anything else by them that I like.
