I was listening to a Radio 4 show today about the year 1981, and they were talking about Smash Hits "biro buddies" and how teenagers would leave their full postal addresses in their messages asking for other 'young boys and girls" to get in touch with them. "Pretty 14 year old, likes ska, wants to meet young boy! Here's my address!" :D

I don't remember the address thing at ALL.

They did, though! I ended up writing to a missionary's son in Brazil through that letter page. We corresponded for a good couple of years.

Music, not liking Mods :D , what Brazil.was like, our schools, I sent him badges..it petered out in the end after the inevitable veering toward the salacious on both sides.

Fantastic! I hope you kept them.
Also on the show was a piece about the New Cross house fire. Do you remember that? I don’t remember that at all.

I didn’t know it played such a pivotal role in race relations politics.

In ‘ye olden days’ wealthy families could (and did) arrange for midgets (ye olden terminology) to be delivered to their house in a box for their entertainment, with the same ease we order a curry now!

:D

I don't know if they had the phone in those days, but if the delivery was late I wonder if the company called the customer and said it would be there shortly.

No Pants Subway Ride canceled for 2021 due to COVID-19

https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2021/01/07 ... 610043898/

Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The organizers of the No Pants Subway Ride, an annual January event held on public transport in more than a dozen cities worldwide, announced the 2021 event has been canceled.

Improv Everywhere, the performance art group that has organized the No Pants Subway Ride since the first event was held in 2002 in New York City, said this year's sans-pants public transit trek has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once you’ve invited a fly into your house, it’s terribly difficult to get it to leave and you will just have to tolerate the buzzing. At least I think that’s what this haiku says!

Some Japanese railroads in the mountains are delayed due to an infestation of millipedes on the line. They only come out every 8 years and their bodies are so oily they can cause trains to derail.

New guy is starting in my work on Friday, I've to introduce him to some folk we support and the differing requirements for each one. Turns out I was at school with him, dont think I've seen him in over 40 years.

That the sun rotation around its axis every 26 days but, because it is made of gas, different bits rotate at different speeds.

Frogs live in the Alps. They hibernate during winter and then in Spring they jump down the mountain snow to melted ponds where they partake in a huge orgy!

There was such a shortfall in female frogs one year over here, the males were trying to cop off with the toes of those green Hunter wellington boots that their owners had left outdoors
