Sweet Pea Atkinson RIP

Postby 50 Shades Of Blue » 10 May 2020, 21:30

Sweet Pea Atkinson died of a heart attack on the 5th May, aged 74.
He was a vocalist in Was Not Was.
Big guy who always seemed to be wearing a hat and bright coloured suits.
Has a couple of solo albums but spent most of his career as a top notch backing vocalist.
RIP big guy.

A decent background piece on the BBC with some Was Not Was vids (not in a bright suit!)

That is sooo eighties, but the singing is great... I never really know whether it's Sweet Pea or Harry Bowens in Was (Not Was), but I do remember those first three albums very fondly!

RIP, Sweet Pea

Charlie, this kicks the ass of "Knocked Down Made Small" etc. Not as good a title but a better song

Pretty sure he also sang in Lyle Lovett’s Large Band

He did. That was his steadiest gig after Was Not Was finished in 2008

Yeah, probably! But "Knocked Down" was where I first became aware of him, and it's still the first thing I think of when I see/hear his name...

Mrs Boom is a big fan of Lyle Lovett and we used to go see him and his Large band at the Bass Hall in Fort Worth once a year. Sweet Pea was always fantastic and quite the stage presence, a star in what was a band of shining stars, they were always wonderful shows. RIP
