Surprisingly, it's actually pronounced "Muscle Shoals".

How many people died from the (regular) flu in 2019?

In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

From CNN

The coronavirus outbreak has killed at least 362 people

The point I was making before was a snarky one about how the panic over the novel coronavirus outbreak was unjustified when one compares how many deaths there are from the normal flu and this supposedly new version. They're minuscule in comparison. But now - hold onto your tin foil hats - it turns out that the US government has been attempting to weaponize bats to spread this new virus. And despite the enmity between the US and China there is a surprising amount of research cooperation between the two countries, plus a whole lot more world threatening, bio-weaponizing skulduggery from yer Uncle Sam. You can read about it here. It's written by Whitney Webb so you know it's accurate. https://www.thelastamericanvagabond.com ... -outbreak/

You're comparing worldwide flu deaths from the ENTIRE YEAR to deaths related to the coronavirus outbreak which was first reported less than two months ago and which has (so far) largely been contained in China (who may or may not be sharing accurate statistics with the rest of the world).

In other words, you are swallowing some bullshit merchants' bullshit whole without taking five seconds to ask yourself whether it actually makes sense... as usual.

I'm not even gonna say anything about "weaponizing bats".

Oh, go on! Start a thread about it. They sound really cool. You could make millions from the TV rights.

And another thing about Jimbo's latest straw man delusion: reputable sources have always pointed out that it isn't a serious global problem yet but all caution is needed because it could become one.

If you accidentally put soy sauce on your salad, instead of balsamic vinegar, it tastes revolting.

And it gives you a headache.

Fabulous.

I've already used it twice, and taken great pleasure in disdainfully explaining what it meant.

I didn't give you credit.

As you've cut and pasted it into one of your posts, J, I think we can all probably take some comfort in the fact that it's actually anything but accurate

Interesting - similarly in Swedish it is "övermorgon"...I hadn't twigged before that morrow is derived from morning (which itself is related to morgon or the German morgen).

For me, 'morrow' is one of those words that sounds like an original Anglo Saxon word, as opposed to being imported from French or Latin. It figures that it would be the same/similar in other Germanic languages.

I learnt something that presumably every British poster here has known all along - that Minnie The Minx is a Beano comics character. I'd always thought that our own Minnie made up the name. (Anna may be pleased to know that the revelation came courtesy of Viv Albertine's excellent memoir, wherein she describes Slits singer Ari Up as "a cross between Lolita and Minnie the Minx.")

I remember in the early-ish days of BCB, once The (British) Office became available in the States, so much suddenly made sense. There were so many avatars, signatures, and recurring jokes and banter that were suddenly illuminated.
