It's odd and yet comforting that the US is escalating the situation i.e., today, for one thing, telling Iraq we aren't leaving, and yet we good citizens of the empire in the US, UK, EU and Japan can still sleep well enough in our beds and eat whatever the fuck we wanna eat.

The events of the last few days remind me of the end of the Soviet Union.

The airliner being shot down is a catastrophic blow for the regime, just like KAL-007 being shot down in 1987 along with Chernobyl.

They lied about it and then they admitted it. Disastrous for them and now they're reportedly shooting at protestors.

What I worry about is regime collapse and then what happens. There is little or no democratic tradition in Iran.
