Teen-age refers to adolescent.

Teenage is a plant.

Hmmm... the original definition of teenage can't be googled, too archaic or maybe forgotten now. Anyway, when teenage was popularized, as in adolescent, it was always hyphenated. That is a fact, no matter what google says.

Same with "to-day"

Not really used since the 50s

Surely it was the additional "d" that was being commented upon. Although we often talk of middle-aged men and women, we usually say teenage girls and boys.

Yes, I know. But I couldn't resist. I must be the last person on Earth who hyphenates teen-age(d). :)

They weren't equally good all the way through, though. They had peaks and troughs. Peak for me is AHDN, quite early.

Language, and spelling in particular, changes over time. What was once wrong becomes the correct way if enough people back it up. They have language boards to make such decisions and make the changes official.

I don't see why I was an asshole here, and no, that is not something I enjoy. It was meant in jest, so you are taking it the wrong way. I don't really care about the hyphen, but I do think it's a fun bit of trivia. So that bit I enjoy.

Peak for me, though, is Sgt. Pepper. But I think they were pretty much untouchable from AHDN through to Abbey Road.

Well, Duh. I know.

Yeah, I tend to agree. One could nitpick, but the standard is pretty even for the albums.

I'd say the Beatles peaked at about the U.K. Help! and Rubber Soul LPs. Their nadir was the White Album.

The hyphen discussion reminds me of my learned friend Coan's response to me stating he was a sad-fucque

Irrespective, half of it is correct
