Does a cup move you enough to buy any unfamiliar music?

Postby GoogaMooga » 09 Nov 2019, 16:45

How do the various cups here inform your music purchases, do they ever make you go out and buy stuff?

Which do you get more out of, general cup or specialist cup?

No.

No cup is going to move me on from 1974*

Yeah, I reckon so. It might not be an immediate 'order now' thing, but there's certainly names floating around that will inform future purchases. Davy Graham is back on my list of names to delve further into. It's the reason for taking part in cups.

The traditional bcb cup pretty much sucks. A list of 10 tracks that no-one listens to, and vote for the most names they like. Very Mojo tracks, too.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I confess to buying Life in A Northern Town by Dream Academy after being (re) acquainted with it in the 80s cup.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

After a couple of cups, I'll listen to damned near anything.

Who buys music nowadays? ;)

There have been many bands featuring in Prog Cups that I have explored on Spotify and in some cases now play quite regularly but I rarely purchase albums.

It's moved me to listen to some unfamiliar music. I can't remember if I bought any.

Illegal downloaded? Maybe.

TBH I don't do the Cups anymore. It was fun for a while then got tiring. I might pick up on a later one, you never know.

I've listened to the Chris Wood-album after the terrific track posted in this Cup. Really nice.
I've picked up artists and titles in the past before.

They certainly have in the past. The current one may influence my buying habits, although I have only had a chance to sample a few tracks with all the craziness and change going on in my life currently.

Not cups, really, but Prog Corner has proved very fruitful over the years.

Thanks, C.
