Yes, Ratner's sadly closed in 2002 ... I'll always miss them ... Russ & Daughters was still my aunt's place to go for appetizing... she was always so snobby about going there that it left a bad taste. I'll have to pick up some smoked sable and visit Russ & Daughters the next time that I'm in New York.

Take a square knish .. slice it in half, spread mustard on both sides (potato side, not the outside) add salami and some pickles .. close the sandwich. Can be eaten with a knife and fork or with your hands.

That sounds yummy. When I was a kid in NJ there was a place called tabatchnick's(they only make soups now) which had pigs in a blanket but it was a potato knish.

I just got sick!

As a kid, my mother always served pigs in the blanket at all my birthday parties but they were the dough around the mini hotdogs.

My local cafe makes a Pastrami sandwich so good I think it might actually be genius. The Pastrami is obviously home-made, the pickle and cheese is sublime and it's on sourdough bread, pan-fried with a delicious chilli-tomato sauce running through it. The whole thing is just brilliant.

I also had recently a pan-fried cheese and kim-chi sandwich that was also sublime.

Marmite and watercress sandwiches between any fresh bread and butter are delicious in summer.
We normally have rocket growing in the raised veg bed and that's also tasty in a marmite sarny, including the flowers.

The Peruvian Triple sandwich looks good. I like the idea of tomato, avocado and hard boiled eggs (or egg salad) . I don't think that it has to be a triple but can be just a "normal" sandwich.

Sorry Jimbo but it's the type of morning where I really could use a bacon, egg and cheese (okay the cheese is optional) sandwich.

As a kid .. Bumble Bee tuna, mixed with Hellman's mayo on rye bread was a staple.

Did you ever notice that a restaurant tuna on rye was somehow better than any tuna sandwich you made at home?

High school lunch - walk home, whip up some Bumble Bee tuna, add some Bermuda onion on a toasted bagel or rye toast with a leaf of lettuce.
