Folk punk

Postby GoogaMooga » 07 Nov 2019, 19:01

I tried Oysterband the other day, three albums for a quid: all fiddly, Celtic stuff that I soon tired of. Really, in the sub-genre of folk punk, it's only The Pogues that I like. Maybe I just haven't heard enough, or maybe it's just such a strange pairing that few try it or succeed with it.

Folk Goons and Frank will probably want to keep their powder dry whilst the Cup is taking place.

No clues and all that...

You may recognise a couple of subtle nods to punk and ska in here:

And of course, The Dancing Did, who were always magnificent:

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Edinburgh's We Free Kings were pretty good:

I can't find their other tune I liked - The Death Of The WIld Colonial Boy.

Always liked this one by The Men They Couldn't Hang - totally mad live:

I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.
