Hmm, must have missed this one. Very tough keeping it to just 5. I went with the ones that were dearest to me:

Armed Forces.
The Wall.
Rust Never Sleeps.
Squeezing Out Sparks.
The Undertones.

Would like to have included London Calling, Off The Wall & Look Sharp in this Top 5.

Quite a few on this list that wouldn’t have meant that much to me, though.

It was still the prog goons for me in 1979 (and '89, '99, '09) with a few exceptions - I adored Joy Division.

Could easily have picked more than the four I did (Pretenders, Van Morrison, Costello & Jam), being particularly partial to the Graham Parker, SLF, Undertones, Joy Division & Clash, plus think that I'm likely to enjoy the Neil Young & AC/DC much more now than I did at the time.

My fifth vote goes to the masterwork that is the Yachts first, eponymous album with its cracking tunes, cheesy organ, excellent guitar (tho' the aggression displayed live wasn't fully transmitted to recordings) and wonderful lyrics.


Available in red and blue sleeves, I prefer the red.

Well, I guess this isn't going to make two pages so I might as well sum up. Didn't think Rust Never Sleeps would come out on top, though I knew if I included The Pretenders in a 1979 poll it would do well. The LP is mostly listed as 1980 but the Rhino CD and wiki say December 27, 1979 so I went with that. Not as many people voted in this poll as they did in the 1969 one.
