I enjoyed reading this book a few years ago. Docherty was the promoter of the Bay Hotel in Sunderland, where I assume this was recorded. He had a few anecdotes about Free, whom he clearly rated highly as a musical band, and how they were never short of female fans whom they would do their best to satisfy...

Those were the days...

The Locarno - maybe Docherty wasn't the promoter of this gig then, though it's possible he did. Bay Hotel was definitely where he learnt his trade. A colleague of mine from Sunderland described it to me as a dive.

They all were weren't they?

For example, the Dagenham Roundhouse that I used to frequent as a 17-19 year old had sweat seeping from the walls!

Eric's (Liverpool) had it's own ambience - not as legendary as the Cavern's, but stale enough! Plenty of condensation/sweat - very low ceiling.

It's difficult to believe that Andy Fraser wrote the tunes to many of these classics at the age of 16/17

Awesome
