No doubt that A is a great song, but I have to ask if they also gave us "Respect" in the MOBO cup or "Roundabout" in the prog one.

Whereas 50 years later there's still been nothing quite like B. Probably not a "deep cut" for the likes of us either, but at least a bit of thought seems to have gone in...

B is very, very good, but come on - A is the alternative national anthem of the USA.

A is far too safe and I have heard it thousands of times - I don't need or want to hear it again. Sorry A

Pentangle - what a band Jansch, Thompson, Cox, McShee and Renbourn - what a fine bunch of virtuosos!

I adore Jansch's voice (that's J-ansch not Y-ansch) in fact I wished he's sung more. Sorry Jacqui (who has a lovely voice but sometimes a bit 'whispy' for me).

Anyway, a reasonable track selection - although I can think of 20 better and I wasn't keen on the unnecessary strings

However, an easy decision for me, B has it

B has it

The opening notes of B were too much like Ace's "How Long?" which put me off for some reason.

I'm voting for A

I wondered how long it might be until the obvious suspects were outed. Not blooming long eh?
Its a resounding A as Pentangle are the worst of the genre for me.

Conflicted here - already know both songs;

A) should probably be the national anthem of the USA, although there would probably be a riot if the Republicans actually understood what it was trying to say.

B) Pentangle are a favourite of mine, but this is one of their minor songs. I guess you cant win: be accused of being too mainstream, or of being deliberately obtuse.

Errrrrrr

A.

But on another day it could have gone the other way.

Close. A certainly has historical significance on its side, but I've probab;y heard it too many times and on any given day I'd be more likely to play

Well, it may be obvious, but a least A found a version of the song with one of the 'political' verses about private property present.

B's not one of my favourite Pentangle songs, it's a bit widescreen for folk, too much thrown into the mix. Lovely to hear Danny Thompson's bass leading the way, but those strings are a deal-breaker for me.

I find Pentangle and Thompson's bass hard to resist and Jansch taking leading vocals is always a welcome variation. It's a fairly minor song by their standards but still a good 'un.

a - Ha! familiar to me, of course, but while this is as authentic as it gets, I still prefer the versions by Mojo Nixon (for the creative anarchy) and Bob B Soxx & the Blue Jeans (for the sheer joy and celebration of it). That said, it is a great song 6.5 / 10
b - never a fan. Even Chip, who knew Bert and John in the 1960s, tended to prefer their solo work, and while Bert hasn't got a terrible voice, it doesn't seem to suit this kind of song. And basically it comes down to the songs, really. It's all right, but it's not going to win here. 5.5 /10

A - come on the song that defines Folk even if it's got the Wall lyrics.

B - this is a beauty love this Pentangle song although I would pick others.

Great match. Both are pretty special, but i'm much more likely to put on B.

Respect for A as it was one of the songs we digested in school as part of a music and history-study.
B is medium-roast Pentangle but it is quite cosy.
