Re: Post something you've learnt today
Yesterday we drove up to the bristlecone pines which are at 10,000 feet. They are the oldest trees in the world. So old that when scientists figured out how to determine their age without killing them (bore samples) they had to recalibrate the carbon dating system. Based on this scientists figured out that Stonehenge was older than previously known.

Re: Post something you've learnt today
"Wichita Lineman" was actually given to Glen Campbell with the advice from Jimmy Webb that it was unfinished and needed at least the addition of another section ( the middle part) and maybe work on the ending. Campbell had been badgering Webb for another tune, after the success of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" and wanted Jimmy to agree to come up with another tune. Webb said he wanted to write something totally different but, in an attempt to keep Glen pacified, gave him the unfinished "Wichita Lineman" as he was away for a few days.
Upon his return he met with Campbell and asked him what he thought of the song. Campbell said it was fantastic, to which Webb replied he would finish it off soon. Campbell then said that it was finished and handed Webb an acetate he had done -with the Wrecking Crew as his backing band - over the five days Webb was away, including Campbell's solo (on a six string bass) over the 'needed to be finished' middle section. Jimmy put it on and couldn't believe the finished product. They didn't need to change a thing.
And that became the released version!

I always loved that story. In the version I read, Webb didn't hear back from Campbell, then happened to run into him somewhere a week or two later. "I guess you didn't like 'Lineman', huh?" says Webb. "Oh," says Campbell, "I loved it! We cut it and it's coming out next week!" "Glen, it wasn't finished!" "Well, it is now!"
A great story but a questionable one, as Webb played organ on the record...

Bowie was originally going to play Sting’s role in Brimstone and Treacle but bowed out at the last minute.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.
