I've fallen ill with it.

Purchaced a turntable and started to reassemble the collection that I gave away over a decade ago. It sickens me to se the cost of replacing some of my poor discarded albums. So far I'm about 10 albums in to replacing my 50 most cherished LP's. I'm hoping to stop at that point (if I ever reach that point )

Mine are all up in the attic. Still in alphabetical order and in plastic sleeves. Lps, 12"s a few 10"s and 7"s. Haven't got a turntable wired up so no chance of playing anything for a while.

Thousands. I still buy most weeks. Unfortunately some bastard has opened a second hand vinyl place in the next town. Mrs JKB has already banned me. This morning I had on Hound Dog Taylor and then State of Euphoria by Anthrax. Up next First Born, Eyedea and Abilities

Been buying vinyl since I was 14 many years ago and still buying it.

The great thing about the vinyl renaissance, if that's the correct phrase to use, is that there has been so many reissues of albums that have long been unobtainable, or priced so highly that only those with enormous bank balances can afford them, (my cousin sold his original copy of Bowie's Man Who Sold The World LP for £1414.00 a year or so ago). In many cases the reissues are now presented better than the original, with inserts or booklets containing more info/pics about the band/artist, thicker vinyl pressing, gatefold sleeves when they were originally just a single sleeve and much cheaper to purchase. I'm not bothered about buying originals of albums I might have missed or couldn't afford in the day, mostly the reissues are great and suit me well.

And yes, I could download all this stuff for free, or close to free if I wanted to, but I like records and covers and putting them on a turntable and turning on amplifiers - the whole ritual. Still like CDs as well it has to be said.

I still have a nice vinyl collection (depending on your view), but CD is by far my preferred option. Two reasons:

1: My son bought me Springsteen’s Western Stars on vinyl and surprise surprise, a lot of surface noise.

2: I have a Rega Planar 3 TT, but my Marantz CD 63 Mk 2 KI nearly always outperforms it. No need to go back.

So, the story is, I fell head over heels for CD because I found the crackle and pops with vinyl too intrusive (I think I'm definitely on the autistic spectrum). I loved being able to skip from track to track with the convenience and immediacy of remote control. I also struggled with storage for the vinyl and I think because my collection became very familiar, I got bored with it. At the time I got rid of it there was very little value for vinyl. I took the lot to a workshop where I worked about 15 years ago and when I changed my job, I just left it there. Two crates full.

Jane's dad passed away almost 5 years ago and we inherited his classical collection of CDs, cassettes, reel-to-reel and about 100 vinyl lps. And then earlier this year, my brother-in-law died leaving me his vinyl collection. There's a little more than 30 albums and it is a very special collection to me because it's pretty much all I listened to from being 13 to 16 years old. Some of it I love (Roxy, Bowie, Zep, Genesis) and some of it I don't love as much (Tarkus,Groundhogs etc)

So we bought a turntable. My plan is to replace the most cherished albums from my lost collection, which I estimate to be around 50 albums. I'm trying to collect original copies but some will have to be re-issues because of the cost. It's hearbreaking to see the cost of some of the lps I threw away. Some between £50 and £100 for decent copies

I sold around 3000 LPs, singles and 12"s to finance my migration to Australia and even though it broke my heart in doing so, I never regretted it.

Given the cost of vinyl nowadays and the circus surrounding coloured vinyl and specialist re-released titles, I'm glad I don't buy it anymore.

Now looking to sell off my CD -collection too.

I have always kept a turntable (rega planar 2 since you ask) and never replaced my vinyl with cds. I still by some albums on vinyl, usually wher I have most of the band's stuff on vinyl anyway: but this "delux" idea of putting ordinary albums on to discs is just a rip-off.

Roughly 800 LP's for me. Started as a kid, gave up in the early 90's but kept my collection even though I got rid of my turntable. Started up again about 10 years ago. Reckon half of the records are from my early years and I've doubled that amount since. I'm still 50/50 between buying vinyl or cd. Depends on a number of things. Problem is I've maxed out my storage so need to do a cull every now and then, due another soon to make some more space.

Just as a point of interest... this copy of The Beatles ‎– Please Please Me was given to me along with a stack of mostly dross 80's pop and soft prog nonsense. It's a Mono, Gold & Black Label, Northern Songs Credit (technically a second press) edition. When I played to it has (to my utter dispair) a warp that affects the first track on both sides. It values upto around £1,500 - but not with a warp in it

Selling to fund the cost of records that you actually want? Actually, I don't know if I can now. It's become part of the vinyl family.
