I’d forgotten how brilliant this collection of songs is. I had the cassette when it came out and only recently got it on mp3.
Pretty much all killer. Better than Bob’s Husker Du years? Well I reckon so.
From the Pixies pop of Good Idea to the grunge prog of Hoover Dam it’s all top notch but the Slim is the devastating heartbreaking centrepiece.

Same here. Wonderful, from beginning to end. Does anybody think that "Hoover Dam" could be from a Peter Gabriel album ?

I still play Copper Blue and it is a fine collection with a lot of stand out moments. I love A Good Idea and If I can't change your mind. However I have always preferred the harder edged Beaster. Despite it only having 6 tracks, it is the definition of all killer to me.

Tilted is one of my all time favourite songs, but every track is essential.

Bob really was on a role during that 1992/93 period.

An excellent album but I prefer Beaster whose songs were recorded at the same time as Cooper Blue

In fact I prefer Mould's Workbook and Black Sheets of Rain more too

Better than Bob’s Husker Du years? Well I reckon so.

I'd agree whole heartedly as Husker Du have never clicked with me. Both Copper Blue and Beaster are excellent start to finish and I often play them one after the other. File Under Easy Listening is disappointing though as it lacks both the strong hooks of Copper Blue and the steeliness of Beaster.

Does anybody think that "Hoover Dam" could be from a Peter Gabriel album ?

I've never thought so before but now you mention it I can see how it would fit on one of his first two albums.

Bob's later solo albums are a good return to form

I would argue vehemently about it being better than Husker Du but it's definitely the best of his post-Du work. The fact that this record has so many hooks makes it so odd that Beasterwas recorded at the same time, seeing how dark that record is. FU:EL is a huge drop in quality but I did catch them on that tour and they were just stellar as they were in support of Copper Blue (in fact, according to Bob's autobiography, it was a long walk with David Barbe after that particular show on the FU:EL tour that he decided the split the band. So blame me if you must).
