Abbey Road Deluxe: September 29

Postby BARON CORNY DOG » 08 Aug 2019, 18:01

What a surprise! Another big anniversary, another box. At least we don’t have to buy vinyl to get the good stuff.

I don’t know about this one. I loved the Sgt. Pepper & White Album big boxes and Giles Martin remixes, but the last Abbey Road remaster was astounding: proving I The Beatles had at last got to grips with stereo. Mind you, I loved the Abbey Road early version songs on Anthology 3, so I’m going to wait and see what the extras are. I may not need too much convincing...and I do have a birthday just before then.

Basically, if the Beatles are gonna give me a book and a bunch of studio quality outtakes, I’m in.

Yep.

And I'll be interested to hear the remix... once, probably.

In a nutshell...

And the fact that Abbey Road was my entrance point to rock music (my first LP, as a 10-year-old) makes this the mother lode!!

Pass. Alternate takes simply aren't enough at this point. I did it for Anthology and Pepper, but I want outtakes, whole new songs.

Waiting on my desk for me this morning.

On first listen I'm pretty stoked. Nothing revelatory, but the behind-the-scenes stuff if fun. They're having fun too, and sound pretty relaxed. They don't sound like a band about to break up at all. I think when they were all in room together playing rather than discussing business, they got along.

I'd go for the 3 CD box except there's an annoying blue ray attached and that hikes the price up too much.

Will get the 2cd soon. Bigger set too expensive - if it had more outtakes id be in for it.

BBC seem to have gone big on the band this week, promo for AR, loads of Radio stuff and the cover of Radio Times, no TV features though that i can see, bit of a shame.

Is it any good? I’m skeptical.
