Reading Festival

I’m off to Reading for the festival tomorrow.
We’re going with my daughters and their friends and havebackstage vip gubbins for Saturday from my mate’ brother who does some of the booking.

I checked out the bands and recognise two of them!

Any good bands playing that I should check out?

There’s some comedy stuff I might check out and the girls will make me watch Billy Eilish but otherwise I’m at a loss - i mean who are the fucking Wombats?

Like yourself, I only recognised two of the artists on the entirety of the music lineup (and I have no wish to hear either), there are some comedians I'd check out.

Take some good books.

I have a good book

Back in the day - as far as I was concerned - Reading always seemed to have a much better line up than Glastonbury. I never went but the idea of not having to sit through old farts like Van and Christy Moore etc was appealing.

Now I’d give my left ball for a few old farts on the bill

If you like hip-hop, there are some decent names there, both US and UK talents. Juice WRLD, and Anderson.Paak are notable mentions, plus Dave, AJ Tracey, and most especially Showthai and Octavian - two of Britain's best rap exports of late.

Would recommend checking out King Princess, for sure.

Ha! Now I’m back home I can report that I didn’t catch a single one of those recommendations to my shame - we saw what the kids wanted to see on the whole.

I can’t say I was wild about any of it but Royal Blood were good, 21 Pilots had their moments, the 1975 did maybe 3 or 4 songs I liked (although they sounded very much like Gryff Rhys / Neon Neon I thought) and my daughters loved Billy Eilish - As did about 20,000 other youngsters.

My daughters had their pic taken with Youngblood (me neither) backstage - very nice young man.

The Wombats were crap - I’ve no idea how they became so massive.
And how did Post Malone get the headline? It’s a mystery.

On the whole I’m surprised how much I enjoyed it.

My elder niece went on Friday and had a great time ( her first festival). We’d looked at the entire lineup for the festival last week. I’d heard of a whopping 3 acts, and one of those was the Foo Fighters. I’m so OLD.
