Two examples of avant-prog, my least favourite genre of progressive music.

The Fred track is phenomenal - absolutely stunning!
I recall that the Frith album has the great Ferdinand Richard on guimbarde (jew's harp)
Melodies by the shedload and full of awesome music.
Charlie n Charlie is a nice poppy track - lots of fun with soem of Faust guesting - Zappi at least.
Dagmar sounds great as usual and there's soem pleasant guitar.
This is very hard
I need to sleep on it.
I'll be back.....

Re: Prog Cup 2019 Round 9 Match 5
This is my kinda prog matchup and both tracks are absolute monsters, so this is a difficult vote. I’m guessing B fits my mood today, but tomorrow I’d likely vote A. Excellent stuff.

Re: Prog Cup 2019 Round 9 Match 5
A is not prog. It is an eccentric pop song. And it's short! And it still manages to get plenty of oofness in there.
B is a self-indulgent mess that goes on far too long, though I like the bagpipe bits (of course I do!)

B was very restless and had quite a bit going on: some fairground stuff, some novelty moments, a few rockier sections, folky bits, bagpipes....some worked, some didn't and its pick'n'mix approach grew tiresome over 8 minutes. Easily gets the vote though as A was pants.

If I was some sort of Cobra I'd be mesmerised by B. Its batshit bobbins though.
A. Although it could have been shorter.

Re: Prog Cup 2019 Round 9 Match 5
Great match. I'll go ahead and say that I'm always a little bit flummoxed by the reputation Acnalbasac Noom's gained over the years as an "avant-pop"/"avant-prog" record of sorts, mostly because when removing the credits from it, what we have in the album is pretty straightforward, traditional-sounding pop with some cabaret and baroque touches. Sure, the naiveté and poptimist attitude in display here comes with a strong whiff of artschool awareness too, after all you don't fool anyone when it's 1973 and your backing band is *Faust* of all entities; nevertheless, the music here is most striking perhaps in how straightforward and accessible it is, coming from an ensemble of artists who've made a fame for themselves doing things as far removed from accessibility as imagined. As for my thoughts on the record itself otherwise, I think it's wonderful, and this is one of the highlights.
Now, Fred Frith is obviously a known quality for years, but despite that I've never listened to Speechless, so this is new to me. And honestly, it's really magnificent. A maelstrom of all manner of instruments to create a really striking and appealing piece. I'll be checking this out for certain soon.
So I'm guessing B takes this one, but again I love both.

Hard to place a vote for either of these but I think it’s going to have to be the one that is prog.
