RIP Paul Raymond

Postby Nancy » 16 Apr 2019, 18:15

Paul Raymond passed away after a heart attack on April 13 at the age of 73.

He was in many bands and played on dozens of albums over the course of his career. He started out in 1964 in the Ian Bird Quintet which also featured Jon Hiseman. He then made 2 albums with Plastic Penny. He was Christine (Perfect) McVie's replacement in Chicken Shack, went on from there to Savoy Brown and then to UFO and many UFO-related bands (Waysted, MSG, etc.). He also made several Paul Raymond Project albums. Quite a prolific musician/songwriter and a talented keyboard player and guitarist.

This may also bring UFO to a slightly premature end. They had just started their farewell tour a couple of weeks ago.

RIP Paul. Thank you for all the great music.

Pontificating incorrigibly since birth.

Aw, man. Just saw him with UFO a year or two ago. Great show it was, too.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Saw him a couple of weeks ago on the farewell tour. I’m glad I got to see him for a last time. It was a fantastic nostalgia fest but still rocked hard. RIP.

Good player, though understandably overshadowed by Herr Schenker. UFO made some great records back in the 70's and remain underrated and frequently unfairly dismissed as a 2nd tier UK heavy metal/hard rock act. They deserve better.

Sad News. After all, who didn't enjoy Men Only?
Of course I only bought it because the crosswords were excellent.

Oh that Paul Raymond! I thought you meant the porn publisher and I was about to shed a tear.
