What do you think of this then?

Postby Minnie the Minx » 08 May 2019, 19:27

I had forgotten all about this until this morning.
What do you think of it?

Makes sense, then, that they had a "Nu-Disk" out back in the day.

awful, electronic music for people that find Midge era Ultravox too edgy.

Ok, but not as good as World of water. Think I'll start a City Boy thread if we want to discuss palid pop.

I liked it a fair bit at the time. I haven’t heard it for years and haven’t played the clip but my memory is conflating the tune with Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark.

Love it.

My favourite New Musik:

While the Naysayers are busy saying their nay, we can remind ourselves that New Musik was only one small part of the earthly manifestation of the talent of Tony Mansfield in the realm of music.

I wonder if anyone else can name the punk legend with whom he collaborated, producing his first album (and several to follow) and co-writing several songs?

Got it in one!

Women and Captains FIrst

Robyn Hitchcock, and Penny Rimbaud of Crass also lend a hand on that wonderful album, sadly not available in full form for decades, but re-released last year.

If you haven't heard it, you should.

Indeed!
I'm tempted to post you-tube links for tracks from that LP, such as Martha The Mouth or Brenda (pts 1 + 2), but instead here's another fine New Musik track :

oh the sun is shining
and I'm on that road

Big fan of al three of their albums. This World Of Water stormed the charts here at the time and that was it.
Been trying to track down what Tony Mansfield was up to afterward.

This is by far my favorite track by them...

I don't hate it and I don't love it.
Probably enough there for me to not change the station when it came on.
