From a respected quasi-prog goon:

'Dreadful Music. An awful band....'

Humble Pie

Agree...?

Not for me, but I suppose they're OK if you like that kind of thing. They don't offend me, at least. But I can't imagine owning one of their records. (I did see them live, at the Whisky). So I suppose that means I disagree, though without any enthusiasm. So I vote "neither."

Closer to "Yes" than to "No" - but I really love the Smokin' album, and the 7-inch edit of "I Don't Need No Doctor" and a very few other things, so... abstain.

Yeah, they're a fun shambolic British band like Faces or Silverhead, a music style I'd happily welcome back in my ears.

I don't recall what they really stood for. Neither,I think, did they. That is the crux. In their defence though, few bands alluded to the respective merits or otherwise with regard to Newcastle Brown and Durban Poison.

Agree.

Killed off any credibility that Steve Marriot achieved with the Small Faces, which he never regained in the UK.

Whatever their level of success in America was mirrored by their complete lack of it in the UK. 'Hammerhead boogie' a fitting description for their music, wish I'd thought of it. And their cover designs, mostly among the worst ever produced.

They had their merit although the first two albums didn't have anything to do with their later hard rock boogie.

I think they had a run of great albums through Humble Pie, Performance, Rock on, Smokin' and Eat it. After that it get s a bit iffy. But I love hearing Stevie in full flow, and they were a great band. I can see why they were not universally popular. Maybe you had to be there...

Not so much awful as, a missed opportunity IMO. They had a good sound but needed more good tunes.

You definitely have to be in the mood for their brand of slo-mo boogie, but if you're into it, it's hard to think of a band that does it better.

I really only have the live Fillmore album. Fairly good in terms of the playing but one has to get past Marriot's African Americanisms which are very much a product of their time. I like "30 Days in the Hole" too.
