There's a dopey essay in the Superchunk singles collection in which the Superchunk dude writes that making singles is all about cramming enough stuff in a few minutes of grooves to make the listener want to pick up the needle and play the record again and again and again. For bands of their era (and since) Buzzcocks are peerless. Though the music is essentially rudimentary, the chord progressions and melodic twists and turns are perfectly engineered to head spinning effect. It's as perfect as pop music gets for me. Hellfire .

you are rife with silliness. they're just punk-rich and original and full of depth, moving in surprising ways.

okay, i am pretty loose about all "proggy" definitions.

it's a great album. and they really do stand out to me.
