Yeah , yeah. The Bobbie Gentry set was absolutely essential.

Said no one ever.

And that Prince album was horrible

And of course the Felt album was far more important that the Roxy Music re-issue.

Jesus wept. And they wonder why music journalism is dead. Cunts.

Can I be the first to complain at how retro and backwards looking these reissue charts are? Not one new album considered. Shameful.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

What I noticed are the many expanded deluxe jobs. Have they run out of different albums to reissue from scratch?

Well I’m assuming you’re joking, though round here who can be sure? Because they are quite conservative lists in their very obviousness (but then again some of the big predictable names did release superlative sets this year).
I’ll complement the Mojo and Uncut ones by sharing the reissue lists from Rough Trade, Shindig, Norman Records, Factmag etc. when they’re published, which are bound to broaden the spectrum of best-reissue candidates.

Agree on Prince, disagree on Bobbie G and Felt. I mean fair enough if you dislike Felt but they did a smashing job with all those reissues, a lot of others could learn from them.

I think I'm probably all Forever Changed out, but that reissue had passed me by - anyone heard it and/or recommend it? Might stick it on my christmas list.

I was gonna say! I’m pretty interested in it, particularly after that Bobbie Gentry podcast talking about her later records.

It may as well be THE best set ever.

And it doesn't have the sniffs, farts and false starts most of the Beatle sets have.

Now we're waiting on a similar a Joe South set.

I would trade all of Giles Martin’s re-dos for more sniffs, farts, and false starts, thank you very much.

I bought it. Forever Changes appears to be in a competition with Pet Sounds for "Most Copies/Versions Bought By Charlie O. Through The Years". I wish one or both of them would concede, already.

Anyway, there's really very little of worth musically in this set that hasn't been out before. The "Mono Mix" is actually nice to hear, but it turns out that it isn't even a dedicated mono mix as such, but a fussed-with stereo fold-down. And there are a few backing tracks and single mixes for those of us who enjoy such things.

The book is very nice. And it comes with an LP, for those who still insist on enjoying such things.

In other words: if you have to ask, you probably can do without it.

No Hendrix or Lennon on either list.

I suspect the Hendrix is another barrel-scraping - the few outtakes available on line hardly seem essential - but the Lennon one is definitely better than some of the others here.

If Bobbie Gentry at #1 bothers some - and personally I think it's only a couple places high - than they must be livid about Liz Phair at #11.

I'll also say I generally love the Dylan Bootleg series but I think this one's a botched job. First one that's a single disc and they don't even put all the New York Sessions on it? Don't know why they didn't do one disc of the alternate version and then one disc of outtake highlights. Isn't that what they did with the rest?

I've got the single disc but your idea would have been much better.

Of the vol.13 I got the big box, mainly because of the live shows.
