Van Morrison, Live in Boston 1968

Postby mentalist (slight return) » 12 Nov 2018, 08:59

The holy grail 1968 Van live recording from the Catacombs in Boston, hit the internet for a few hours, and then mysteriously disappeared:

He created Astral Weeks in Boston and this was recorded as he was working the material into an album.

Legal reasons or a teaser?

Almost certainly legal reasons. Few artists have shown less interest in their back catalogue than VTM

Aside from Philosopher's Stone Vol 1 (there never was a Vol 2) and the 3 CD TLTSN set a few years back,
Van seems to have made zero effort in curating his legacy. This is a great shame as there are lots of Philosopher's
Stone type bootlegs out there if you look.

Not sure if he even owns the AW recordings - he certainly seems to have had little say in the Moondance set
that Warner Bros issued a few years back.

That said, if Van ever did a bells and whistles version of Veedon Fleece, i'd be first in line.

Don't forget the Them and "Authorized" Bang sets - which seemed unthinkable until they actually happened.

And while he doesn't have any "controlling interest" in Astral Weeks and the next few albums, he has revisited AW live in recent years - and a '68 live recording would presumably be out of Warner Bros.' purview and thus potentially in Van's... [edit: I only just read the links in the OP, and now realize I may have misinterpreted what you were getting at.]

Well I'm suitability amazed that I'm listening to this. Recording quality is not great but decent. Acoustic guitar, bass, flute and vocals I guess. Thankyou Peter Wolff and universe.

And he was somehow involved in the Them set -- at least the liner notes.
