Musical taste or virtue signalling?

Re: Musical taste or virtue signalling?
The first time I heard Fela Kati I liked the music because it reminded me of James Brown. And I like him more than the following Americans - Lawrence Welk, Slim Whitman, the Osmonds and the Starland Vocal Band. Is that virtue signaling?

Dear God, yes. Why do you hate your own people?!
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

That’s easy. Self-hating American. I can’t seem to stop. For instance, I like Los Bravos more than the 1910 Fruitgum Company. I’ve spent years and thousands of dollars in therapy but it hasn’t improved. I only wish that I could have spent Euros or Yen or anything instead of dollars. Freaking American money...

We were from the get-go.
The premise is ridiculous.
You really want paragraphs on this?

I can only assume that you didn’t bother to read the first page. And why would you take such an absurd premise seriously?

Because it was meant seriously?

That doesn’t negate the absurdity of the premise. Your good pal Googa Mooga is mostly serious about his threads. Doesn’t seem to stop you.

You could just as easily have asked Count Machuki or Le Baron or Yomptepi or Goat Boy if you’d paid attention to the first page of the thread. And, since I didn’t answer your question; yes, I was joking. I did so because I found the premise of the original post to be absurd and unsupportable and not deserving of a serious reply. Much the same as you do when you find Googa Mooga’s serious posts to be absurd and unsupportable and not deserving of a serious reply. There’s your serious paragraph! I hope it meets your rigid standards.

Re: Musical taste or virtue signalling?
Fela probably listened to a fair bit of James Brown I'd hazard to guess.
Edit: but then someone already said that!
I don't think the BCB Conservative and Iconoclast factions will be able to muster up enough passion to argue in favour of this one.

I mean...God forbid anyone should ever virtue signal in a BCB Cup!

Re: Musical taste or virtue signalling?
I tried every strategy in the BCB Cup, even posting up what I liked, and never got past the second round. Came to the conclusion, long after everyone else, that I have a decidedly average taste in music. Then wisely retired.

Re: Musical taste or virtue signalling?
I remember the time I picked the Warumpi Band in the 80s Cup and it was called a joke and something along the lines of "music you're supposed to like", implying that it was something you weren't liking on its merit, and more because of the race of the bloke singing. I won't make the mistake of championing Indigenous Australian music again!

You can't, really. It's a minefield.

You could have spent that money on 1910 Fruitgum Company albums and been a happier man today. Unless your father was an abusive and controlling monster named Simon, that is.
"Quite."
