Reminiscent of the vibe of the In A Silent Way band.

John Marshall is one of my top 3 favourite drummers - he was amazing
[He is still playing with Soft Machine Legacy alongside Roy Babbington who appeared on Nucleus' later albums]

Yes I can hear that
Ian Carr wrote and performed music on a Miles Davis film I seem to recall

Didn't know that, though I've read Carr's biography of Miles.

Oh yes, and the groove building and building. I think this sort of music has the effect that a track like Kashmir has for others. Picks me up and carries me on in a relentless tide.

Oboe is gorgeous again.
Perhaps a touch more Weather Report than Miles. Has there been a Weather Report synch listen? Perhaps not enough rockist touches though.

I am never sure which is my favourite Nucleus album
The first three are all superb but this one probably has the edge

Ballad Of Joe Pimp - a bod to Zappa's Willie.
It always reminds me of Manfred Mann's Chapter 3 Painted Lady
[Ian Carr appeared on Mike D'Abo's album D'Abo]

Yes - tasteful is apt. Spedding isn't flash but I rate him highly. Tim Renwick is another I hold in high regard, his timing and ability to serve the song is spot on.
