B suffers from a pretty corny lyric, but I dig its vibe. A is cool. Maybe too cool.

I like both of these. I'm all for some Bossa and smooth jazzy R&B, and one after the other is alright by me on a wet and dreary Thurs morning. I'm giving it to Norman.

I like both of these but:

A

is a great pick. It's the track that led me into Chico and further into Brazilian music.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

this is brilliance. mwhaha. oh yes.

meanwhile, A is impressive. building. wicked.

A is wonderful. I love anything with a bossa nova feel, and when the orchestral bits arrived, it was spine-tingling.

B is OK, but it's very generic mid-70s soul. Not one ounce of the adventure contained in A.

I can't add much to what's been said about A aside from the fact that, along with the wonderfully aggressive Barryesque orchestration, the vocal harmonies halfway through the song are also incredible. There are details about B that I like, there's some interesting percussion sounds and occasional guitar accents in the background, and I'm sure the vocal performance would be pretty good in a different context but it does all seem to collide into what feels like a very schmaltzy and generic bit of mid-70s cocaine-fuelled soul. A takes it.

I live in Northern Europe. Tropicalia bobbins makes me feel sad and inadequate. Philly is my kind of decaying wasteland.

Really good tie!

Going for A for the shock factor of those horns kicking in at 1.58, like a number of people have...

A sure takes its time getting there - I wouldn't peg it at the horn entry, but more like just the very last minute - but it sure gets exciting once it gets going. B is charming but also quite goofy, and takes even longer to get somewhere less interesting.

I really like A. That brass is immense and the Bond theme comparisons are spot on.

I don't rate B at all.

a - oh ffs fuck off with your six minute tracks. This couldn't be further from my wheelhouse than if it was beamed down from Mars. Which it may have been for all I know. I see loads of other people have pronounced this to be the shit, but for me, you can drop the definite article. Sounds like a show tune from a Spanish version of Dante's Inferno. the 23rd level of hell. Not as bad as that Xian folk nonsense in the last round. but still horrid 1.5 / 10
b - Well, this is not a great deal better, but I don't find it actively offensive 3.5 / 10

I’m not averse to that smooth B sound but you’ve been batted out of the park, Norman

B is too smooth. A near made me shit my pants when those horns kicked in. But it's a fucking legit tune and an unreal discovery.
