Gary wouldn't mind, as it's Bowie.

I feel kinda bad going for the obvious Bowie, when I've always enjoyed that Numan tune. But it's just better.

I quite like that Numan track and it's clearly a "less obvious" choice, but i find it hard to ignore the fact that i love the hell out of 'Stay'.

B is for Bowie.
Despite my recent reappraisal of Newman is can't beat ol Dave.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I was a teenage Numanoid. Complex was one of the first singles I bought, and it still resonates. I love its fragility and vulnerability.
By comparison, Bowie is skilfully wearing yet another mask, and it's not one of his more interesting masks. The track is fine, but it never threatens to, well, make me break down and cry....The Numan track just cuts a little deeper.
Great tie from a conceptual angle!

I like both actually, but Bowie does it better. B

A is less sucky. Only by a minuscule amount though. Christ! Is this the best the 70s had to offer?

Ooh, Battle of the Bowies! Love the arrangement of A, but it's a bit of a nothing song, in'nit? I feel like Samuel Jackson - please repeat that vocal melody one more time!
B is pretty much all the things Rayge says it is, except I consider them positives.

Both brilliant. Bowie doing funk is definitely not overrated but I'm down with Numan

A is a half an idea. Album filler.
B is a monster. The rhythm section is killing it. I’ve listened to its glamorous grooves on many a night when I’ve been at the powders. Fabulous

I concur absolutely on B. People sometimes say 'Stay' is just a groove and a riff and I say so what if it is if the riff and groove are that great. But I think you're being harsh on A, the instrumental passages are a rather beautiful melody, almost like a proper classical piece..it's a very sophisticated thing for the young Numan to have come up with. It's no 'Stay' of course.

It's overcooked and his vocals are horrible. Really a chore to listen to.

Overcooked? Oh I dunno.
Earl Slick’s hysterical guitar playing - if that’s what you are referring to - is fantastic and unhinged. It’s just one of those relentless grooves that’s impossible to fight. It has a real muscular physicality about it but a nimblesness too.
I’ve always loved it
