How far back in time would you still play in a cup
Have we done a 1950s cup yet? That would be good.
How about 40s 30s 20s? I am still game there, though it gets more difficult. I try to cover the whole 20th c., my earliest stuff is Scott Joplin piano rolls. Popular song really gets going in the 1930s, with advances in mic technique. Lennon's dictum, "Before Elvis, there was nothing"; had he lived longer, I think he'd have changed his mind there.

1390s.
Couldn't vote though as it wasn't on the poll.

Surely we can handle a 1950s cup. Best decade for pop vocal and jazz.

Might vote in a 50's cup or "Pre-Beatles" cup as was posed, but not participate... Simply not well versed enough in the period to field a list...

Fange would kill us all with his Blue Note picks.

To me, the 1960s are the apex, with 50s and 70s tied for 2nd place.

None of them. I wouldn't even play in a 60s cup tbh.

I would LOVE a pre-Beatles competition. All genres, all the way back to Stoneage music, up to and incuding the Jimmy Castor Bunch's 'Troglodyte'.
Maybe next year i could run one, but still just a maybe.

Not so into cups anymore. But I’d especially enjoy anything involving the 40s. I listen to as much 40s music as anything.

I'm of the opinion that a pre-Beatles cup would be better to cover that whole period than one relating to any specific decade. Regarding what I could take part in, I suppose I can fill a 50s list out though I'm a lot less certain about 40s or earlier - I would however vote in any of those cases.

I'd be down but to actually listen to the selections would take way more time than I've got.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Yeah, I could play, too, as I got back into classical while I was "away". But the length of those pieces makes it difficult.

Yes, that would be so much easier, and could be very interesting.

That included loads of stuff from later decades, owing to the high wanker factor among the contestants, and nothing much from the first half of the fifties, not to mention it left out jazz, pop and other things that were as much a part of the fifties as other stuff
