Devo, Todd, Roxy, Cure and Radiohead. Pretty obvious and safe-ish list.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Nominations
My prediction that "one day all the quality acts who have EVER been nominated will eventually get in, because there are no universally beloved bands that formed after 1990", is starting to take hold.
SOMEBODY good/ well deserved/ previously overlooked is getting in this year. There's only a few of those nominees I would seriously disagree with. I'm not that into Def Leppard, but they are certainly one of the most famous rock and roll acts of all time. I'm not that into John Prine but I recognize him as someone who delivers consistent quality and is highly regarded in his field. I don't listen to a lot of Janet Jackson but I do have a massive crush on her, since 30 years ago, and she's made some records I really love. And she was a big cultural influence in her day no doubt. Stevie Nicks' solo work, when she is already there as a member of FM, seems like the most disposable, but even there I have to say - she sure is famous!
I wouldn't vote against any of them really. Just a matter of picking this one over that one.
If I was going for the ones I like the most then: Roxy, MC5, Kraftwerk, Devo and LL.
But if I was voting for the ones who seem to "deserve" it based on their recognized contribution to the culture, ie fame, then Def Lep, Janet, Rage, Kraftwerk and Todd.
I love it that Devo is finally in contention to be in the Hall of Fame of the art form they sought to undermine and expose as fraud. In the porocess they wrote some killer tunes.

When the likes of the Beastie Boys and NWA have been inducted, I am mystified that Todd Rundgren one of the key American rock performers and producers has been overlooked.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Nominations
I'd love to see DEVO, the Zombies, Roxy Music, Radiohead, Kraftwerk and the MC5 but I doubt most of those will happen (my money is on DEVO and Kraftwerk).
LL Cool J made a few great records but he's the NCIS guy, he ceased being a rapper a long time ago, and I question how far his reach was influence wise.
Rufus & Chaka Khan I only know the radio hits. Maybe someone here could school me on their catalog.
Prine and Rundgren are deserving as songwriters, but I honestly don't know too much about either, except that from what I've heard I prefer the Nazz over Rundgren solo.
I don't care for Def Leppard or the Cure but honestly, they probably deserve it. They're each massive bands of their era and genre even if I don't like them.
Janet Jackson and Steve Nicks confuse me, Nicks more than Janet. If they haven't put in Ozzy Osborne as a solo act yet, then why Stevie? Janet was a good pop star but I don't know how much weight that should carry.
And yeah, the idea of the hall is silly but the museum is awesome. I enjoyed it far more than I'd like to admit.

As one of the early stable of Def Jam, LL Cool J was probably one of the most successful rappers at the time and had a string of three or four really impressive albums. His rap battles with Kool Moe Dee are legendary.
The guy was only 18-19 when he put out his first album. I'd say he's as strong as any hip hop candidate, except for Run DMC and NWA, who were both much more influential.

And Stevie Nicks as a solo artist? That's just as much of a joke.

The lack of MISFITS is a joke, that's what.
Happy for The Zombies, though.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I was watching a show on ESPN, the cable sports channel, and they were discussing the nominees.
They couldn't name one Roxy Music song and made fun of them a bit. But I would think that's true of a lot of America, and if you put a gun to their collective heads, might come with Love is the Drug. And that's it.

I'm USA and I've been listening since the 70's! But yes I'm in the minority and on a sports station please I'm surprised they would know the Cure either?
Then again not even sure I know more than two Def Leppard songs.
