Re: President Donald J. Trump
This piece in the NYRB soberly and without hyperbole lays out ways in which our present moment resembles the period during which the Weimar Republic gave way to Naziism.
<snip>
Because an ever-shrinking base of support for traditional conservatism made it impossible to carry out their authoritarian revision of the constitution, Hindenburg and the old right ultimately made their deal with Hitler and installed him as chancellor. Thinking that they could ultimately control Hitler while enjoying the benefits of his popular support, the conservatives were initially gratified by the fulfillment of their agenda: intensified rearmament, the outlawing of the Communist Party, [but also] the suspension first of freedom of speech, the press, and assembly and then of parliamentary government itself, a purge of the civil service, and the abolition of independent labor unions. Needless to say, the Nazis then proceeded far beyond the goals they shared with their conservative allies, who were powerless to hinder them in any significant way.
</snip>
More alarming, it also lays out ways in ways in which the present moment doesn't resemble that period - but which actually turn out to be even SCARIER.
Well worth a read.

12 years or we're fucked say the IPCC. The perfect time to send a memo to the EPA asking for a regulation to be drafted allowing for the year-round sale of highly polluting E15 ethanol. Chuck Grassley couldn't be happier, I'm sure.

Anyway, Nikki Haley's out? Prepping a Presidential run, no doubt.
Watch her desperately try to distance herself from Trump over the next year.

There's already speculation amongst the tinfoil cap crowd that she authored the anonymous NYT article.

Not beyond the photo op, she didn't. I don't think she has any bigger comprehension beyond what makes her look good.

"no-one more qualified"
I mean, there's probably no-one (under serious consideration) less qualified - but he'll do whatever he wants, of course.
Truly tragic times.

Most automobile engines are only capable of taking a 10% mix of ethanol.
"Putting a fuel into the marketplace that the vast majority of cars on the road were not designed to use is not in the best interest of consumers,” American Petroleum Institute President Mike Sommers said in a statement.
Even if ethanol wasn't so highly polluting it destroys small engines as it draws water and rots seals. I only use 100% real gas in my equipment. Costs a bit more and can be hard to find but well worth it in the long run.

“We’ve updated all of our security systems at home. I sleep with a loaded gun by my bed. I’m home alone a lot, obviously when Rand is [in Washington, DC], and so I’ve got deadbolts all around my house so that if someone’s in my house when I go to bed I’m deadbolted in three different levels,” -- Kelley Paul

Y'see, I said this as a JOKE.
Come to find out he actually proposed it.

In Ivanka's statement, she made it pretty clear that she doesn't want the job.
Maybe she couldn't deal with the "glamour" Haley brought to the job.

Someone on CNN yesterday referred to Nikki Haley as 'a woman of colour' - turns out her name is actually Pramesh Pramathan or something.

Empire Loyalists Grieve Resignation Of Moderate Psychopath Nikki Haley ... Describing Nikki Haley as a “moderate Republican” is like describing Jeffrey Dahmer as “a moderate meat eater.”

Trump thinks the Mueller investigation will show that it was actually the Democrats that colluded with Russia.
So there's that.
