Barely, I think. They played them on FM radio while I was in high school. I hated 'em.

Much more an Outlaws fan.

I do the same thing, for some reason. Maybe it's because I listen to my long list on my iphone after and try to figure out why I was kicked out in the second round.

Morons.

That's the other beauty of the song vs song format - you can't get kicked out in the 2nd round.

On the downside you get to see your well loved songs individually humiliated and torn to shreds in a soul destroying manner match by match.

Yeah. There may be a masochistic component.

Start out pandering to BCB tastes, then remember a bunch of jams that people HAVE to hear, thereby screwing up the entire operation.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Pick a bunch of songs that you just KNOW D_F will hate, and wait for the laurels to come.

I brainstorm for a day or so about what styles of music I’d like to see on my list. I start by picking some obvious favorites from those particular genres, then use rateyourmusic as a guide for anything I may have forgotten or some deep cut track I’m missing from my library. I usually come up with 10-12 songs that could work and start eliminating from there.

I have different methods for every cup, non of which seem to work. This time I went with the first 8 70's tracks that came up on random play that I regard as 5 star songs, excluding anything too long and/or proggy as I fear attention spans and prog tolerance levels are low.

And I for one look forward to seeing how you squeeze neo acid folk, grandiose post-rock, and bedroom electronica into the ’70s! ;)

Eight songs either on my recent played lists or hangovers from old Cup longlists. It’s all good but probably not necessarily built for success given that strategy saw me get the wooden spoon in my group last time out.

stay away from obvious hits of the 70's, plenty voters think the obvious is not interesting enough and will not vote for it just because of that.

That's a little of my downfall, I think. It's a careful line to tread.

We were discussing David Essex on here. My natural tendency would be to go for Rock On, and I think it would do pretty well, but then again, that's why I probably fall out of contention pretty quick in these things. I lack CQ, or cool quotient.

Depends - a well chosen pop hit can often be worth a dozen deserved obscurities. But I would say that.

Well, there's obvious and there's BCB obvious.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
