I don't dislike A, but I'd prefer if it wasn't so string-driven.

B is lovely and sweet.

At last a tie where I can endorse both selections. The grand exhilarating sweep of A is still very attractive, but I'm with Loki on B, there's a sweet, sensual fragility there. For being the more original pick..

A interesting mix of 90's feedbacky alt rock, strings and a soulful vocal.

B pleasant bossa nova without a bossa nova beat.

Nothing to see with A. B isn't particularly good either, but I suppose the one mood/idea it's working with is a bit more interesting than whatever is on the other track. Underwhelming match all the same.

Blimey, Bernard Butler really fails in his attempt to do the Freddie and the Dreamers dance at the start of that video clip. It's sounds like a meeting of 70s soul and Britpop clunkiness, with added arbitrary strings to try and make it sound epic. It can fuck off.

I've never heard B before, and I quite like it. It's in the Stereolab and St Etienne school of exotica and twee vocals, but I like the extraneous noises and proper feeling of recording the room, as much as the instruments. A really good pick. Really poor youtube work though, work on your editing, youtube person.

B verged on the overly twee in the vocal department at times but it has a nice summery feel and the sound effects enhanced it.

I do broadly like A, but I can never quite shake the feeling that there's a better song trying to get out there. There's something a little constipated about it all despite the epic strings and McAlmont's soaring voice. The rubbish sound quality on this video doesn't help.
B meanwhile was almost something I liked, with a nice mixture of bossa nova, acid folk and ambient background noise, but I found the vocal irritating and overdone and it ruined the song for me.

I'd rather listen to B I think.

I liked the atmosphere of B more than the song, which was very slight indeed. The bigger flavour of A is better - clunky but still grand - but it’s a song I never really want to hear again.

Whoever chose a really missed a trick - had they picked the album version of "You Do" that would have pissed all over that frankly horrid quality version of "Yes" .

Has to be B which i very much like anyway.

a - I love David McAlmont's voice unequivocally, and the production on the 12" single version of this is fucking stellar, one of the highlights of the decade. It is, I just listened to it again. But it's missing from this clip, it just sounds wrong, the drum's way too high, the crescendo is botched, there's distortion in the treble, it's a fucking mess, like the time someone posted a 1970s TV performance of On Broadway by some 'Drifters' featuring none of the group who made the single and a crap 1970s band. The production on the studio version of Yes spirals elegantly out of control, while this collapses in a heap. But McAlmont's voice is still in there, so 5/10
b - This is new to me, and sounds like a lot of bands I liked in the eighties. The crickets are annoying, the guitars a delight, mostly, and I'm ambivalent about the voice and the style. The crickets are very annoying. And I've decided about the voice and the style.
It's a miss. And those fucking crickets are really getting on my nerves. Oh fuck off 4 / 10

I cannot be doing with B. It makes me want to punch things; it's so aimless and sickly. ( I was going to be nice, given the ho-ha of round 13, but B has ruined my good intentions. )

A is much more the thing.
